Fuck the Burn
Our society tells us that exercise and pain are BFF’s. We should all “rise and grind” because “no pain, no gain!” and if we don’t like it suck it up and “just do it!” Afterwards we should definitely not feel good about ourselves since, “there is no finish line!” But exercise does not require pain and feeling like our muscles are hot enough to toast marshmallows. Moving our bodies should feel good and does not require puking in a bucket to improve our health. It’s the opposite really since the more you enjoy exercise the more likely you are to do it consistently (science says!). It’s time to rewrite these so-called inspirational quotes. “Less pain more gain” “Just do what feels good” and “there is a finish line.” It’s your couch after a fun, moderate workout.
